Our trademark hare design evolved from a William De Morgan tile.

Bell Pottery was created when Jonathan & Sue Atkinson married in 1968, after Jonathan completed the Harrow Art College pottery course. Sue, a very talented fabric designer had worked for Lucienne Day and other well known 60's designers.

They started by making slipware and some tin glazed dishes. First working in Herefordshire on Midsummer Hill, later moving to Ewelme near Oxford.

The name Bell Pottery was created in 1990 when they started to make spongeware in addition to the tiles Jonathan was making at the time.

Jonathan & Sue's daughter Jane joined them to help her mother decorate the pots. Jane made an early start when Liberty's of London unwittingly chose her designs when she was aged just 6 ! After several workshop move's they are now settled in Spelsbury, Oxfordshire.

Sadly, Sue died in November 2008. Jane & Jonathan work together, Jonathan makes, glazes and fires the pots & sometimes makes tiles. Jane does all decorating and looks after the business.
